Product Description
HEATHER SCOTCH BRANCHY ANNE Calluna vulgaris 'Branchy Anne'
Description:
These plants are the most varied and interesting of all Heather. The foliage can be silver, yellow, gray and various hues of green. These colors change with cold weather to red, orange, bronze and dark green. Some varieties have beautiful colors of new growth, with shades of pink, yellow, orange and cream. Heather do best in well-drained, acidic soil and require sun for at least half the day for their best color. Plant with Hollies, False Cypress, Candytuft, Creeping Phlox and Wild Thyme for the best effect. (Pollen causes some allergy in certain people.)
Common Name: Scotch Heather, Ling Heather
Botanical Name: Calluna
Type: Evergreen Shrub
Soil Preference: Will tolerate drought-like conditions and will grow in very dry soil but prefers sandy soils with a pH of acidic to slightly alkaline (less than 7.0 -7.7)
Light Requirements: Full sun, partial sun, partial shade
Attributes: Suitable for cut and dried flowers
Pests: None serious
Diseases: In hot, humid weather fungus may become a problem and should be treated immediately. Wet soils may cause root rot.
Care: It is recommended to mulch before the onset of winter to protect from damage caused by the cold temperatures and wind. Callunas must be pruned or they will become leggy. Trim to below the old flowers in late fall or early spring. Fertilizer may not be necessary. If the plants are not thriving, use a low rate of fertilizer for acid-loving evergreen plants (Holly-tone)
